Mothers Of The Amazon is a non profit protecting the Amazon Rainforest and the health of its indigenous communities for future generations. The profit of this event will go to support the construction of a house of artisans in the village of Mibaia in the heart of the Amazon in the state of Acre, Brazil to help preserve the beautiful and sacred art of Kene (true patterns) that the Huni Kuin women weave and bead in their clothing and jewelry. For more info visit: www.mothersoftheamazon.org. The Huni Kuin are often called the last guardians of the Amazon rainforest. They have lived in ecological harmony with nature for thousands of years; Their culture, history, and entire existence depend on it.
The ceremony will be led by Yube Huni Kuin, vice president of the Huni Kuin Federation. Yube is often referred to as the buddha of the rainforest and radiates joy, gratitude and his love for the rainforest. During this ceremony, participants will be cleansed with smoke and face painted for protection. Yube will chant ancestral prayers of the Huni Kuin and will serve two medicines: hapeh (tobacco snuff) and sananga (eye drops). Hapeh is used for meditation and cleansing. Sananga is used to remove blockages and receive clarity. Yube will be accompanied by guardians to support the ceremony. Guests do not have to participate in hapeh or sananga. We will close with tea and a light meal provided by SATELITE.
